Topdon Rlink J2534 Firmware Boot Mode Error Solution

Problem:

Got the Topdon Rlink J2534 and it will not update the firmware version. Keeps giving me the device is in boot mode error. How to fix this issue?

Common Solutions for RLink J2534 Boot Mode/Firmware Error:

Run as Administrator: Completely close the RLink Platform and OEM software, right-click the RLink software icon, select “Run as administrator,” and try the update again.

Power Cycle: Unplug the RLink USB from the PC, wait 2 minutes, plug it back in, and restart the firmware update process.

Check Connections: Ensure the red light (vehicle power) and blue light (USB) are active. Use a stable USB port, preferably directly on the laptop (not a hub).

Disable Firewall/Antivirus: Temporarily disable security software that may block the firmware update download.

Verify Drivers: Ensure only necessary J2534 drivers are installed and that they are up to date within the RLink Platform.

If the error persists with a “failed” update message, the device may require remote technical support from TOPDON to resolve the firmware hang.
